En este artículo se realizó una revisión bibliográfica sobre la violencia sexual, considerando esta una problemática que ha sido invisibilizada y poco discutida en la academia. Inicialmente, se tomaron las diferentes definiciones de violencia sexual para llegar a la construcción teórica de un concepto que involucre los diferentes elementos que la conforman, revelando la fuerte relación existente entre la violencia sexual y la violencia emocional. Posteriormente, se identificaron los tipos de violencia sexual que se presentan con más frecuencia (especialmente en Latinoamérica) y se agruparon en cinco categorías: violación, abuso sexual, explotación sexual, acoso sexual y violencia sexual como arma de guerra. Después, se abordó la victimización secundaria, a partir del tratamiento dado desde los sistemas penales donde se sigue cuestionando la veracidad del relato de las mujeres.
