Introducción: La dieta cetogénica o también conocida como la dieta “Keto” consiste en la ingesta alta de grasas y baja en carbohidratos, fue utilizada desde 1920 pero con la llegada de los antiepilépticos se dejó de utilizar, últimamente se ha vuelto a reincorporar la dieta en los pacientes con epilepsias refractarias mostrando hasta un 25% de efectividad, las complicaciones relacionadas con la dieta cetogénica son mínimas comparadas con los efectos adversos de los fármacos antiepilépticos. Objetivo General: Determinar la efectividad y complicaciones de la dieta cetogénica en la reducción de convulsiones en pacientes pediátricos que padecen epilepsia refractaria. Metodología: Se llevó a cabo una revisión sistemática carácter descriptivo de bibliografía actualizado de los últimos 5 años, recabando 40 artículos de diferentes bases científicas que describen el rol de la dieta cetogénica en el tratamiento de la epilepsia refractaria. Resultados: La dieta cetogénica proporciona beneficios tanto a los pacientes que presentan epilepsia refractaria como los que presentan epilepsias generalizadas, parciales y lesionales. Evidenciándose mejores resultados en niños en un 30 al 50% de los casos.

Las enfermedades transmitidas por vectores,han sido uno de principales problemas en todo el mundo, en Ecuador gracias a su clima tropical, presenta gran distribución como:Aedes aegypti y Ae. Albopictus cuya función es transmitir virus como: Dengue, Zika y Chikungunya. El no control de los vectores provoca proliferación e incremento de número de casos, como en el dengue en los últimos años a raíz del covid 19. Esta investigación tiene como objetivo, identificary diferenciar los aspectos epidemiológicos, manifestaciones clínicas, diagnóstico y tratamiento adecuado, evitando complicaciones a futuro, disminuyendo el riesgo de vida de los pacientes.Se realizó mediante una revisión sistemática exhaustiva en los últimos 5 años en bases de datos científicos, OMS y en la del Ministerio de Salud Pública. En Ecuador desde el 01/01/2016 al 31/12/2018, se reportaron 251.799 casos de Dengue, en las provincias de: Guayas, Manabí y el Oro, el Zika en el 2018 se reportaron 10 casos mientras que en el 2020 no se reportó ningún caso y en el Chikungunya en el 2018 hubo 8 casos y para el 2020 solo era 1 caso. Además, se pudo evidenciar que los síntomas comunes de estos tres virus son: fiebre, malestar general, mialgias, artralgias y cefalea y para realizar el diagnóstico definitivo se requiere pruebas serológicas para detectar los anticuerpos en la sangre.
Los antimicrobianos tienen su origen en el año 1944, el microbiólogo de suelos Waksman realizaba una investigación sobre microorganismos productores de antibióticos, como resultado descubrió la estreptomicina, este acontecimiento marcó el inicio de la época dorada de los antibióticos considerados como quimioterápicos naturales, y después de varios estudios, obtuvieron decenas de nuevos antimicrobianos que provenían de actinomicetos, otras bacterias y hongos. Existe una extensa variedad de familias y grupos de antimicrobianos, que se diferencian por los mecanismos que los conforman, por la actividad antibacteriana que generan al inhibir el crecimiento o al generar la apoptosis.
