ResumenEste ensayo enfoca la construcción de ciudadanía desde la perspectiva de la globalización como paradigma que no agota las visiones que sobre el ejercicio ciudadano pueden construir hoy los habitantes de América Latina. Asumiendo la ciudad como el espacio del proyecto liberal de la Modernidad, el artículo plantea la incidencia de la globalización y del multiculturalismo, como su correlato, en las ciudades contemporáneas. Para ello, describe las diferencias que opera, entre las urbes del Primer Mundo y las de América Latina, el discurso de la desterritorialización producido por el espectáculo y el consumo. El ensayo propone la construcción de una nueva mirada a la ciudad latinoamericana a partir de una concepción de la cultura que no legitime la precaria vida cotidiana urbana y reincorpore la noción de colectividad territorial. Así, podremos asumir nuestras urbes sin excluir los grandes espacios de la miseria y hacer de la ciudad el ámbito de ejercicio de una libertad que pasa, necesariamente, por lo político.

la Sra. Lisbon hace que la manifestación pasional carezca de sentido.
