Objetivo: caracterizar las granjas avícolas y la autosuficiencia de maíz y soya, en Tungurahua-Ecuador. Metodología: se realizaron entrevistas a noventa avicultores seleccionados mediante muestreo no probabilístico; se utilizó estadísticas de producción y exportaciones reportadas por la Asociación de Fabricantes de Balanceados (AFABA) y el Ministerio de Agricultura, Ganadería, Acuacultura y Pesca (MAGAP), y se calcularon índices de Tasa Media de Variación Acumulada y autosuficiencia y dependencia alimentaria. Resultados: en Tungurahua el 78% de avicultores se dedican a la crianza de aves de postura y el 62% tienen instalaciones semiautomatizadas. El 100% de maíz y soya utilizado por la avicultura de Tungurahua, procede de otras provincias e importaciones internacionales. Entre el 2007 y 2016, el maíz registró un índice de autosuficiencia promedio anual de 0.9, mientras que la soya registró 0.08. Limitaciones: la información estadística de producción nacional e importaciones de granos se encontró dispersa. Conclusiones: los resultados indican la presencia de diversos tipos de sistemas de producción avícola. Éstos, según el nivel tecnológico, van desde los artesanales hasta los automatizados. Así mismo, la producción nacional alcanza a cubrir con dificultad la demanda nacional del sector avícola, no así la soya nacional que cubre una mínima parte. Con base en éstos resultados se sugiere mantener la política de sustitución de importaciones de maíz amarillo y ampliar a la soya.
El objetivo de la investigación fue evaluar la influencia del biol enriquecido con microorganismos eficientes, en el cultivo ecológico de Lactuca sativa L (lechuga) variedad "Iceberg".
Durante cientos de años los habitantes de las comunidades campesinas e indígenas en los Andes han utilizado la ortiga en el tratamiento de enfermedades así como en tratamientos espirituales, a pesar de esto, sus usos están poco documentadas en esta región en particular. El objetivo del estudio es registrar las principales especies del género Urtica L. (ortigas), en los pueblos de la cuenca alta del río Ambato, provincia de Tungurahua, Ecuador, sus usos y el conocimiento local en torno a ellas. Se seleccionaron informantes clave (terapeutas naturales) para llevar a cabo entrevistas individuales y grupales. Las muestras de plantas fueron recolectadas en lugares específicos conocidos por los informantes. Las muestras se conservaron, se tomaron muestras de suelo para análisis de pH y materia orgánica. Se documentaron los usos tradicionales de cada especie y las características de los informantes. Los resultados muestran que existen cuatro especies de ortigas, tres nativas (U. flabellata, U. leptophylla y U. magellanica) y una introducida (U. dioica), creciendo en rangos de pH entre 6.16 y 7.68 con una media de porcentaje de materia orgánica de 12.37%.
