One of the biggest challenges faced by western lifestyle countries is to stem the current major public health epidemic of cardiac-metabolic diseases that is creating an excessive financial and social burden. These mostly preventable diseases are triggered mainly by physical inactivity and unhealthy diets leading to an excess accumulation of bodyfat, increased inflammation and diminished strength and muscle mass. The aim of this study was to test the reliability and validity of the strength measurement by the new MaxForce interactive dynamometer and to emphasize the importance of using these devices within the sanitary system. 97 voluntary subjects joined the study using two different dynamometers for strength measurement. We note high interclass correlation rates in the MaxForce dynamometer validity and reliability measurements (0.997 and 0.986 respectively) and a measurement error under 1.72% in relation to 5.38% of the manual dynamometer. The results endorse the validity and reliability of the MaxForce device as valuable high precision tool for measuring strength, health levels, life expectancy and sports performance for the health care professionals. MaxForce, also facilitates the strength measurement and training of many different muscle groups, which added to the audiovisual feedback makes this device a practical and useful system to improve the adhesion and motivation for training. The implementation in the sanitary system could enhance general health levels and improve of treatment results of numerous pathologies.
Sports-people's performance at their sport can vary due to the development of their athletic activity when competing. In addition to this, the scientific community have recently increased their interest for the study of essential amino acid's supplements (EA). The purpose of the present study is to examine the effect of the ingestion of an amino acid's supplement with absorption patterns and its relationship with the performance of 32 sportsmen in a maximum stress test of their VO2max. For this study we used a double-blind design. Thirty-two experienced sportsmen, (aged 34 ± 6.5 and; height 178.5 ± 4.5 cm; weight 72.6 ± 8.6 kg), were evaluated during their performance. All of them followed an ingestion protocol of an amino acid supplement with absorption patterns (16.6gr) of GFS AMINOS dissolved in 140ml of water, 20 minutes before starting the test and a later execution consisting in an increasing-stress test, until they stopped voluntarily. At the end of the test we carried out a measuring of their Body Mass Index (BMI), a blood-lactate, a lower body strength test and a cognitive test. The results of this study showed significant differences (P < 0.05) in the performance over time and duration in the stress test, together with a lower loss of cognitive attention and a decreasing of the fat percentage. In sum, this essential amino acid supplement with absorption patterns GFS AMINOS can improve sports-people's performance and accelerate the use of body fat.
The objective of the present study is to determine the reliability of the measurements in the parameters of body composition of the Smart Performance measurement device and to compare the results with those produced by the InBody 270 device. Ten professional-level male athletes (mean weight = 58.4 kg ; height = 165.4 cm; BMI = 26.9 kg/m2) were analysed. An experimental design of a single cohort was carried out. Participants were tested on two 5-point bioimpedance devices: In-Body 270 (Biospace, Seoul, Korea) and Smart Performance. Measurements were made in the after-noon (6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.). The variables used were weight (kg), fat mass (kg), muscle mass (kg), body water (L), BMI (kg/m2), protein and minerals. the Smart Performance Composition device presents a high degree of reliability for the analysis of body composition and its use at a recreation-al, sports and scientific level.
