Diseñé y dicté durante años un curso de oratoria que poseía una estructura bastante tradicional. Los estudiantes aprendían la teoría en unas clases y se les asignaban presentaciones en donde tenían que aplicar dicha teoría. En el 2018, apliqué un proceso de “examinación-reexaminación” para comprobar en qué medida el curso permitía mejorar las habilidades oratorias de mis estudiantes y concluí que los resultados eran menores a los deseados, y que con esto se concluyó que dichos resultados se debían a un desbalance entre el contenido teórico y el contenido práctico del curso, en el cual los estudiantes dedicaban mucho más tiempo a aprender el contenido que a practicarlo. A pesar de estar convencido de que debía darles más tiempo para practicar, no conseguía una forma de hacerlo sin sacrificar contenido teórico por la limitación temporal del programa. Fue entonces cuando aprendí lo suficiente sobre Flipped Learning para deducir que su implementación me permitiría resolver mi disyuntiva. Aplicándolo, aprendí que podía grabar mis clases en formato de video y asignarlos para ser visto en casa de forma asincrónica y las clases presenciales o sincrónicas se podían utilizar principalmente para practicar y aplicar dicha teoría. Aplicando estos conceptos y otras estrategias dentro de Flipped Learning, obtuve de forma inmediata resultados sorprendentemente mejores. Los estudiantes disponían de múltiples oportunidades para presentar y mejorar su técnica progresivamente. Adicionalmente, fue fundamental para el éxito del curso cuando tuvo que ser dictado “en línea” debido a las restricciones implementadas durante la pandemia del “Covid-19”.
