:The present study on cost benefit analysis of sugarcane cultivation in Bhandara district was undertaken in Sakoli, Pavani and Tumsar tehsils of Bhandara district in the year 2014-15 with a view to socio-economic characteristics of sugarcane farmers, examine input used, cost structure and returns in production of sugarcane. The present study is based on total 90 sugarcane farmers. The nature of data based on primary data with personal interview method. The cropping intensity was 181.92 per cent at overall level. The highest cropping intensity observed in large type of land holding. i.e. 200.00 per cent. The per hectare cost of production (Cost C 2 ) of sugarcane during the year 2014-15 for the overall level was Rs.92949.02 and average per hectare gross returns were Rs.148101.01. The average net returns obtained at an overall basis were Rs.55324.98. The input-output ratio on an overall basis was 1.59. The average cost of production per tonne for sugarcane was Rs.1172.25. The major constraints faced in the farmers of sugarcane was low level of productivity (87.22%) whereas in marketing of sugarcane the major constraint expressed by sample farmers was low FRP prize (82.22%).
:The present study entitled "Acreage response of paddy in eastern Vidarbha (M.S.)" was undertaken to know rate of growth in area, magnitude of instability, correlation, acrage response, price elasticity of paddy. The study has been undertaken in eastern Vidarbha zone. Data pertains for the year . The decomposition analysis model (Minhas, 1964) and regression model of the Nerlovian lagged adjustment model (1958) was used in the present study. The following conclusions were drawn from the study. The growth rate for area and production under paddy has increased in all the districts of eastern Vidarbha region of Maharashtra for the study period. The area, production and productivity instability in paddy was observed in almost all districts in the state. It may be because the crop largely depends on vagaries of nature which causes heavy losses. Per cent contribution of area effect was more responsible for paddy production in the initial period but later yield effect was more pronounced. In the overall period of 30 years, area effect and interaction effect showed proportional share (177.59 % and 54.79 %, respectively) in the Bhandara district. The lagged acreage variable was found significant in Bhandara and Gadchiroli districts of eastern Vidarbha mostly with 5 per cent level of significance. The current year acreage was influenced by farm harvest price nor by one year lagged yield of the paddy in all the districts. The regression co-efficient for lagged area was positive and statistically significant in two districts indicated more rigidity in the adjustment of area under paddy. Long run price elasticities were more than short run elasticities in paddy indicating that farmers was not market oriented in short run period.
The conventional paddy growing tracts are in worst crisis due to social, biological and technical setbacks. Well acclaimed rice bowls in several part of the nation is facing a decline in area, production and productivity. In India, there is a growing demand for rice due to ever escalating population. Rice is consumed both in urban and rural area and its consumption is growing due to high-income elasticity of demand. To meet the growing demand, a rapid income in paddy production is needed. But there is little scope to increase the area; hence increase in production and productivity with an improvement in efficiency of production to act as a technological breakthrough to meet the growing demand.
