Tous les auteurs s'accordent pour admettre que théoriquement le sperme frais provenant d'un taureau sain est bactériologiquement stérile, mais tous doivent reconnaître également que, quelque soit la méthode de récolte, une contamination plus ou moins impor tante est inévitable.Il conviendra donc de distinguer parmi les germes mis en évi dence lors de l'examen bactériologique d'un éjaculat, les germes consécutifs à la récolte artificielle, des microbes pathogènes ou saprophytes, issus d'un segment quelconque de l'appareil génital du mâle. Mais avant de caractériser ces différentes souches micro biennes, il est intéressant de préciser l'importance de la flore totale décelée dans les éjaculats.
