Spinal cord dysfunction is not limited to motor sensory and bladder problems, but includes the important aspect of sexuality. The patient with a spinal lesion may suffer a reduction in sexual attractiveness (real or imagined), with a concomitant psychological component of reduction in sexual drive or libido compounded by fear of rejection, pain, depression, and the possible effect of medication. Physical problems include difficulty or impossibility of movement, and the control of bodily functions, including sphincter control and stoma incontinence.
