Cinnamon is an evergreen tree belonging to the genus Cinnamomun; it is commonly founded in various tropical countries, consisting of more than 250 species of trees and shrubs in the Lauraceae family. This plant has had great medicinal importance in traditional medicine since ancient times. In this research, the chemical composition of the essential oil of Cinnamomum zeylanicum Nees was evaluated. The samples were extracted from the leaves and stem. The main components founded from the leaves were: Benzyl benzoate (74.2%), α-felandrene (6.9%), α-pinene (3.0%), and linalool (2.7%). Cinnamaldehyde (31%), linalool (13.3%), benzyl benzoate (11.3%), and cinnamaldehyde acetate (8.2%) stood out in the essential oil of the stem. The antioxidant activity was determined by the DPPH method, obtaining an inhibition percentage for concentrations of 80 g mL -1 , 59.17 ± 0.11% for the leaves and 61.34 ± 0.11% for the stem.
Plants from Annona (Annonaceae) genus are present in tropical regions, where they have economic and medicinal potential. Information on the fatty acids profile and bioactivity from seed oil of Annona species are incipient. The objective of this work was to investigate Annona hypoglauca seeds oil in terms of its yield, composition and biological activity (acetylcholinesterase enzyme inhibition, bactericidal and fungicidal activity). Fatty acids profiles were determined by Gas Chromatography equipped with Flame Ionization Detector. Oil yield reached about 15% and the major constituents detected were ω-9 oleic acid (42.65%) and ω-6 linoleic acid (29.63%). A. hypoglauca oil was potent for acetylcholinesterase inhibition (79.55%), and presented high and selective bioactivity against Candida albicans.
Podocnemis expansa (Podocnemididae) is a chelonian of suborder Pleurodira and is popularly known as Amazon turtle. The animal's body fat was removed from the farm in Xapuri city in Acre State, Brazil. The fat was lyophilized and the oil was extracted by the Soxhlet method using hexane, as a solvent. The fatty acids majority, identified and quantified by gas chromatography-flame ionization detector, were: Arachidonic (25.2%), oleic (ω9, 17.6%), palmitic (ω7, 13.5%), stearic (11.9%) and linoleic (ω6, 9.5%). These, are essential for human health and can be helpful in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, arthritis, psoriasis, improving symptoms of depression, Alzheimer's disease, among others therapies and pathologies. The total phenolic compounds (377.52%) and the antioxidant activity (88.64%) determined in this investigation indicate its high potential in preventing lower risks of cardiovascular and other chronic diseases. Therefore, the results demonstrate the pharmacological, therapeutic and nutraceutical potential of the main chemical constituents of these substances for prospecting and developing biologically active and functional molecules to expand scientific investigations and the commercial chemical industry.
