Teaching large classroom is always a very challenging task for educators. This is due to many difficulties imposed on the teaching-learning process. Digital signal processing (DSP) is now pervasive as it is used in everything from digital photo cameras, MP3 players to automobiles. However many students see DSP as abstract mathematics. This is because of the gap between understanding the mathematical formalism of each concept and being able to make sense of them in practice. Getting students actively participate in learning process and motivating them to fill these gaps is a difficult task [3]. To address this difficulty a "recipe" is suggested i.e. "visualizing" the DSP theory with practical applications like speech processing, image processing and so on will help the students in learning better. Sensory stimulation theory of learning says that majority of knowledge held by adults is through seeing (75%) while hearing is the next (13%) and if multi-senses are stimulated; greater learning because of synergy takes place. This theory encouraged us to develop undergraduate level course activity with the applications of audio processing. In this way students are able to see the results of audio processing in MATLAB plots and analyze the results by varying few design parameters. Thus DSP related theoretical concepts will be studied not just as mathematical abstracts but as a useful tools having sense in real world.
Abstract-Electronic Measurements and Instrumentation involves with the measurement of various parameters related to the operation and use of electronic instruments. Measurements play a very important role in all engineering field. As a facilitator we have to strengthen the theoretical concepts by providing a platform for the students to analyze and design various instruments used for measurements. To improve the knowledge of measurements, analyzing and designing is the greatest challenge at the undergraduate level. This paper discusses implementation assignment as an activity introduced in this course to enhance the interest of the students. The purpose of introducing this activity was to correlate the theoretical concepts taught in the class with the hands-on experience. The details of the Implementation Assignment are also presented. The outcomes of the activity facilitates in terms of academic performance along with exploratory learning approach and presentation skills.
In the present arena, wildlife and forest departments are facing the problem of movement of animals from forest area to residential area. The number of trees has reduced drastically from the forest that creates an unhealthy environment for animals to survive in the forest. It has been found in a survey that 80% losses are caused due to fire. This could have been avoided if the fire was detected in the early stages. This project proposes a system for tracking and alarming for the protection of trees against forest fires. Nowadays IOT (Internet of Things) devices and sensors allow the monitoring of different environmental variables, such as temperature, humidity, moisture etc. Arduino platform based IOT enabled fire detector and monitoring system is the solution to this problem. In this project we have built fire detector using ESP32 which is interfaced with a fire sensor and a buzzer. In order to implement this project, we will be using GSM which is used to provide the final SMS to the user through the given number in the simulation program. The sensor data is displayed on LCD. Whenever a fire occurs, the system automatically senses and alerts the user by sending an alert to an app installed on user’s android mobile.
