La evaluación cognitiva en personas con esclerosis múltiple (EM), es un área fundamental a tener en cuenta en el proceso de intervención, debido a la alta prevalencia de deterioro cognitivo el cual es considerado como discapacitante y que repercute en la calidad de vida de la persona que lo padece y en su red más próxima.
En la actualidad se ha recomendado la evaluación cognitiva por medio de la BICAMS (del inglés Brief International Cognitive Assessment for MS), que es una batería específica para evaluar a personas con EM, pero que no cuenta con su validación en nuestro país. Es por esto que el presente estudio busca determinar los factores que se deben considerar para su futura validación. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 38 personas con EMRR y como resultado se obtuvo que sí influyen en el rendimiento cognitivo los factores de edad y género, no así escolaridad, meses de evolución de la enfermedad y nivel de discapacidad. Dentro de las pruebas cognitivas el BVMT-R es el que más demostró, y de forma significativa, relación con las variables de edad y género. Se recomienda aumentar el tamaño muestral y aplicarlo en otras regiones del país para contar con una muestra representativa de la población chilena.
