Nel 1958 avevo iniziato alcune prove di allevamento e di aeclimatazione .della ProxpalteUa perniciosi TOWER su piante di Pesco nella zona fruttifera a Sud di Verona (Valle Padana), prove che sono continuate negli anni seguenti. Come ho gi~ riferito in una breve nora (1963), le cortdizioni climatiche si sono dirnostrate favorevoli allo sviluppo dell'Imenottero; la sua diffusione non b stata perS molto fortunata poichb i peschi, che sono fra i fruttiferi i pifi sensibili agli attacchi d'Aspidiotus, sono morti in breve tempo.Nella primavera del 1964 ho ripreso in esame un ceppo di Prospaltella (*) rinvenuto su due piante di Pesco incolte ai margini di un frutteto, e quindi adattato al nostro clima gi'~ da alcuni anni; questo ceppo mi b parso particolarmente adatto per compiervi alcune osservazioni sulla velocit'~ di sviluppo nelle varie stagioni, sul numero delle generazioni nel clima della Valle Padana, e sul confronto fra ii suo ciclo evolutivo e quello dell'ospite.Le mie osservazioni hanno avuto inizio in primavera. Nella prima decade di maggio ho trasportato la Prospaltella su una grande pianta di Prunus fortemente infestata da Aspidiotus, legandovi alcuni rami di Pesco su cui il parassita si trovava allo stadio di ninfa. Ne ho seguito quindi lo sviluppo, prelevando ogni settimana piccoli rami della pianta e osservando le cocciniglie al binoculare. Per stabilire il periodo di volo degli adulti di ogni generazione, raccoglievo un certo numero di cocciniglie parassitizzate quando il parassita si trovava allo stadio di ninfa e le conservavo in un tubicino di vetro sulla pianta stessa. Tale metodo mi ha permesso di seguire di giorno in giorno lo sfarfallamento in un ambiente molto vicino a quello naturale.
