The sublattice magnetisation as a function of temperature is studied for some RCo2 compounds (R = Ho, Tb, Pr, Nd) by the technique of powder neutron diffraction. The resulting profiles for each compound indicate the presence of an additional phase RCo3 and a simplified total profile method for two phases is developed to extract the sublattice moments. Discrepancies in the magnetisation behaviour are taken as evidence of further contamination by a rare‐earth rich phase and the results are discussed in terms of the metallurgical phase diagrams. The moment values differ from those found previously by straightforward integrated intensity calculations although the model of an induced cobalt moment is still supported.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
