Early releases of the Advanced Intelligent Network, AIN Release 0, are beginning to be deployed this year. The AIN Service Node will be deployed in 1992, and AIN Release 1, the next major release, is currently being specified by Bellcore and the vendors. This paper presents a vendor's view of AIN evolution. First, it describes the AIN Release 0 architecture, network functions, switch capabilities for AT&T's Advanced Service Platform, Service Control Point capabilities, and potential services. Then it describes how the AIN Service Node can be added to AIN Release 0 to provide an intermediate architecture. Finally, it describes the AIN Release 1 architecture, including the network elements, the switch capabilities, the Service Logic Execution Environment, and the services that can be offered.
