The current rate of hydraulic and hydropower construction has required a serious reorganization of all types of construction work, including the important area of waterproofing and antieorrosion measures. In the area of waterproofing techniques there has been a radical change in recent years in the mass use of new polymer materials, large-scale mechanization, and industrialization of waterproofing work, and also in the development of theoretically substantiated methods of design and engineering calculation of waterproofing measures.These new trends have been generalized and presented in detail in the "Handbook on Waterproofing of Structures," which is devoted mainly to a description of the properties of waterproofing materials and rules of design and calculation of waterproofing works. It reflects new progressive types of waterproofing: cold asphalt, piaster of asphalt and cement mortars, including colloidal cement mortar, colored waterproofmgs of high quality made from bitumen-polymer and epoxy-rubber compositions, impregnated waterproofings applied prefabricated structures, and also colored and adhesive waterproofing materials and contraction joint seals made from new polymer materials. A technical-economic evaluation is given and the area of use is indicated.
