Die leieht nachweisbare Kapsel des Friedl~nder'schen Pneumoniebacillus war ein so wesenttiches Merkmal desselben, dass andere Bakterien, welche die gleiehe Eigenthamliehkeit erkennen liessen, im System an diesen Mikroorganismus angereiht wurden. Und dies umsomehr, als zahlreiche kapseltragende Bakterien, welche sowohl als Saprophyten wie als Krankheitserreger in dan verschiedensten Loealisationen gefunden wurden, auch in eultureller und biologischer Beziehung dam Pneumobacillus nahe stamen, ja sogar nur unbestimmt yon demselben abgegrenzt werden konnten. So entstand jene Gruppe yon Bakterien, welche scbon Fasching, naeh ihm Nicolaier und Andere als eine ,,dutch eine Reihe ~bereinstimmender illerkmale und Eigenschaften wohl charakterisirte Gruppe" yon dan iibrigen Bakterienarten sys tematisch trennten, und welehe F r i e k emit dem Gattungsnamen ,,Bacillus mucosus capsulatus" bezeichnete. Sparer suchte Wilde die dem Typus des Friedl~nder'schen Bacillus pneumoniae nahe stehenden Bakterien zu einer natfirhchen Oruppe Zusammenzufassen, welche er in f/infTypen eintheilte, und die K~use als die ,,Oruppe des Baeillus aerogenes und Rhinosclerombacillus" bezeichnete. Was die Differenzirung innerhalb der Gruppe der Kapselbacillen anlangte, so wollten die Einen die einzelnen Arten, nament]ich mit Rficksicht auf die ihnen zukommende verschiedene ~tiologische RoIle, scharf yon einander trennen und auf Orund geringft~giger morphologischer und biologischer Unterschiede als verschiedene Species betrachtet wissen.
Die principiellen Ergebnisse der experimentellen Lyssaforschung sind mit dem Namen Pasteur's und seiner Schule auf's Innigste verknfipft. Die Entdeokungen, die wit Pasteur verdanken, sind in Bezug auf Tragweite und Fruchtbarkeit ffir die weitere Lyssaforschung yon fundamentaler Bedeutung gewesen.Der Nachweis, dass das Lyssavirus im erkrankteu Centralnervensystem in Reincultur zu finden und dutch einen bestimmten Infectionsmodus auf andere Thiere fibertragbar sei, ,,erSffnete, wie HSgyes (1) in seiner Monographie tier Lyssa sagt, eine neue Aera in der experimentellen Pathoiogie der Lyssa; es konnten nunmehr viele unbeantwortete Fragen in Bezug auf diese Krankheit experimentellen Untersuchungen unterworfen werden und auch diese ]Hethode war es, die Pasteur zur Entdeckung der antirabischen Schutzimpfungen ffihrte, die zu den grSssten Errungenszhaften der modernen experimentellen Therapie gerechnet werden mfissen."Wenn auch durch sp~tere zahlreiche Arbeiten auf diesem Gebiete wichtige Fragen gelSst wurden, bleibt immerhin noch eine Reihe yon Problemen tier kiinftigen Forschung vorbehalten.Die mitzutheflenden Untersuchungen besch~ftigen sich init der Frage der Fortpflanzung des Lyssavirus im Centralnervensystem.
