Films of conducting organic materials can be prepared in either a metallic or a semiconducting state as will be demonstrated for polymeric and crystalline films of polypyrrole and of DCNQI salts, respectively. The specific features of each state are described by the electronic structure of the materials near the Fermi level which is deduced from electron spectroscopies. Further, the transitions between these different conduction states are shown to be based on different mechanisms.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
