Reanalysis of pp coincidence data acquired in studies of superdeformed bands in Hg and Tl nuclei has yielded spectroscopic information about light neutron-rich products of binary reactions of S, S, and Cl beams on Gd targets. Gates set on known p rays in A~160 products selected individual reaction channels and identified coincident p rays in A 36 partner products. Transfers of protons &om projectile to target and of neutrons from target to projectile were generally favored, leading to excited neutron-rich light nuclei, including some dificult to reach by other means. Notable results include the observation of p ray cascades up to the highest known yrast states in four N=20 isotones. In two N=19 nuclei, Si and P, and the two N=22 nuclei, S and Cl, previously unknown yrast states were identified.PACS number(s): 23.20.Lv, 25.70.z, 27.30.+t
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
