Decreased quality of life is observed in individuals who fear surgery or experience severe symptoms due to urinary system stone disease (USSD). As a result, some patients seek complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) methods. This research evaluates preoperative CAM usage and its effects on quality of life for patients who experience renal colic (RC) due to USSD. The research was conducted between April 2020 and 2021 in the application and research center of a university. One hundred ten patients who were scheduled to have surgery due to USSD were included in the study. The data were collected using the “personal information form,” “Use of CAM Methods of Individuals,” and 36-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) forms. Of research participants, 47.3% reported using at least one CAM method. The most common methods were exercise combined with phytotherapy (16.4%) and dietary supplements (15.5%). The proportion of participants who reported using 1 or multiple CAM methods for pain was 48.1%. The Social Functioning scores obtained from the SF-36 of the CAM users were statistically significant. For the participants who used a CAM method, the average Role-Emotional score obtained from the SF-36 was statistically significant. Health professionals should know which CAM methods patients may prefer and to what extent various CAM methods affect quality of life. More studies are needed to identify factors affecting the use of CAM methods in patients with RC attacks and to understand the relationship between CAM method(s) and quality of life.
Pandemi sürecinde yapılan çalıĢmaların sonucunda COVID-19'un doğal seyrine iliĢkin bilgiler her geçen gün netlik kazanmaktadır. Anahtar sözcükler: Yeni tip Koronavirüs, 2019-nCoV, pandemi, önlem ve kontrol ABSTRACT In Wuhan, China, new type of coronavirus outbreak from zoonotic origin in the wholesale market of seafood has reached a global dimension affecting the whole world. It has infected more than fourteen million people spread all over the world in a short time due to high disease-to-person transmissibility. The number of cases detected only in America has approached 4 million. In some parts of Europe, death rates from COVID-19 have exceeded 7.5 times the mortality rates in the city of Hubei, where the outbreak occurred. Meanwhile, Turkey has taken place fifth among ten countries in the world where the epidemic with the number of confirmed cases seen. This epidemic, which has increased the number of cases and deaths day by day, has been declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). Information for clinical symptoms associated with Covid-19 is still limited. When personal precautions are followed, it is seen as the most effective way to prevent epidemic. The disease is transmitted by droplet and contact. As a result of the work done in the pandemic process, Information on the natural course of COVID-19, is getting clearer day by day.

Background: This study aims to investigate the effects of individual and combined use of intraoperative forced-air warming and warmed intravenous and irrigation fluids on post-operative body temperature, shivering, thermal comfort, pain, nausea and vomiting in adult patients receiving general anaesthesia.

Methods: This is a randomised controlled clinical trial. A 2x2 factorial design will used in the experiment. Eligible patients will be randomly assigned to one of four groups. We attempt to report this randomized controlled trial to comply with the spirit. The study population will consist of 120 adult patients receiving general anaesthesia at university hospitals in Turkey. After the induction of anaesthesia, the first group (n=30) will be warmed with only forced-air warming device, the second group (n=30) will receive only warmed intravenous and irrigation fluids, forced-air warming as well as warmed intravenous (IV) and irrigation fluids will be applied to the third group (n=30), the fourth group (n=30) will consist of the control group without any intervention. Blood and blood products to be applied intraoperatively to all groups will be heated to 37°C.

Conclusions: The primary outcome measures are post-operative body temperature, shivering, thermal comfort, pain, nausea and vomiting.
