Det er ikke mange år siden jeg overhørte en norsk kunsthistoriker sukke oppgitt og håpe at feminismen snart var over i kunsthistoriefaget. Dette til tross for at feministisk kunsthistorie aldri har vaert et stort fagfelt i Norge, tvert imot er det så få som arbeider med temaet at det knapt kan kalles et felt. Dette nesten eksisterende feltet kan i stor grad knyttes til Anne Wichstrøm. Det betyr ikke at ingen andre har skrevet om kvinnelige kunstnere i Norge, men Wichstrøm er en av få som arbeider med et feministisk teoretisk apparat. Det finnes dermed to hovedtilnaerminger til å skrive om kvinnelige kunstnere; en feministisk, med Wichstrøm og også Jorunn Veiteberg i spissen, og en tradisjonell tilnaerming som i stor grad utelater eller ignorerer problemstillinger knyttet til usymmetriske maktforhold mellom kjønnene; med andre ord fri for teori og metodologisk refleksjon. To nye bøker representerer disse to tilnaermingene. Signe Endresens Astri Welhaven Heiberg. Sommer på Tjøme er feministisk, mens Mathilde Dietrichson. Love Stories er tradisjonell. Begge utgivelsene er utstillingskataloger, førstnevnte fungerer også som selvstendig monografi. Utstillingen om Welhaven Heiberg blir vist sommeren 2021 på Haugar Kunstmuseum, mens Dietrichson ble vist på Blaafarvevaerket i fjor.
Vilhelm Hammershøi (1864-1916) har vaert en «malernes maler» og kritikerfavoritt siden sine egne dager, bejublet av størrelser som Karl Madsen og Théodore Duret. I nyere tid har han også blitt en internasjonal publikumsfavoritt etter en gjenoppdagelse på 1980-tallet. Kunsten hans blir stadig utstilt i og utenfor Danmark, i år vises for eksempel en retrospektiv på Musée Jacquemart-André i Paris. Det skapes store forventninger ved utgivelsen av en så omfattende bok (nesten 600 sider) om en så stor kunstner. Hammershøis saeregne og fascinerende kunstnerskap inviterer til stadige nylesninger, og den nye boken handler om Hammershøis interesse for fotografi. Vilhelm Hammershøi. På sporet av det åbne billede er skrevet av Gertrud Oelsner, direktør for Den Hirschsprungske Samling, og Annette Rosenvold Hvidt, kunsthistoriker ved Statens Museum for Kunst. De viser meget stor kunnskap om Hammershøis liv og verk, og deres mål er altså å gi en ny innfallsvinkel til hans kunst ved å se på forholdet mellom maleri og fotografi. Ved å gjøre dette ønsker de å «traekke maleriet ud af 'en hellig og urørlig' sfaere og se billederne i en større faelles sammenheng» (s. 64). De ser både på Hammershøis faktiske bruk av fotografi og de analyserer bildene med et fotografisk blikk (utsnitt, zooming, innramming, figurkomposisjon, osv.). Forfatterne er gode til å beskrive og vise tidens interesse for fotografiets visuelle kultur generelt og også fascinasjonen for fotografiet i Hammershøis egen familie. De ble tatt bilder av, tok bilder og samlet på fotografier. Hammershøi var omgitt av foto, og det er lett å vaere med på at den fotografiske visualiteten smittet over i malerpraksisen. Et stort fotografisk materiale er gjengitt i boka og spiller ofte like stor rolle som «kunstverkene». Forfatterne argumenterer overbevisende for at Hammershøi var inspirert av den fotografiske teknologien i sine malerier, slik som i hans preferanser for tomme flater, fokusforskjeller (skarpt/uskarpt), bruk av «close-ups» og i måten han går tett på figurene sam-This article is downloaded from www.idunn.no.
