Nach Wassermann soll ohne Uebertreibung jeder zehnte Mensch an einer bSsartigen Geschwulst, hauptsi~chlich Krebs, sterben. Ueber das Wesen und die Ursache des Krebses wissen wir so gut wie nichts. Und doch spielen vielleicht der Boden und die H~tuser darauf eine Rolle. Sprach man doch von Krebshfiusern. Wie ungiinstigen Wohnungsverhiiltnissen, insbesondere der hohen Binnentemperatur beim Sommerdurchfal], worauf zuerst Meinert-Dresden hingewiesen hat, eine grosse iitiologische Rolle zukommt, so fand ich, dass auch Krebs in gewissen Hiiusern hiiufiger vorkommt als in anderen. Das Wohnungsklima ist aber nicht allein yon dem Ortsklima, sondern yon den baulichen Verhiiltnissen des Hauses, seiner Umgebung und der Luftbewegung, der Lage der Wol}nung und der Art der Benutzung abhiingig (Med. Klin., 1913, Beiheft9), Giirtner schreibt: ,,Bereits yon Alters her hat man gewisse Krankheiten mit dem Boden in urs~tchliche Beziehung gebracht und den Boden fiir die Salubritiit der Wohnungen mit verantwortlich gemacht, insofern ats feuchtes, schmutziges, mit Fautstoffen impr~igniertes Erdreich als gesundheitsschiidlich betrachtet wurde. Der Boden ist von Belang als Untergrund der Hiiuser. Aus dem Erdreich kSnnen Feuchtigkeit und Bodengase, nicht abet Mikroorganismen in die Wohnungen hineindringen. Wenn im Winter der Boden gefroren, die Aussenluft kalt ist, so wirken die in ihrem Innern erwitrmten H'auser ansaugend auf die Bodenluft, vorausgesetzt, dass keine Kommunikation der Riiume unter dem Fussboden des Erdgeschosses mit der Aussenluft besteht". Auffallend war mir in der kleinen Stadt S. und den NachbardSrfern, dass Krebs vorzugsweise in Hiiusern vorkam, die auf der Nordseite standen, bzw. wo die Schlafkammern nach Norden lagen, oder der Untergrund des Hauses, der Boden, feucht und faulig war.
