The complexes [Co 2 (CNCH 2 Ph) 10 ](ClO 4 ) 4 Á5H 2 O and [Co(CNCH 2 Ph) 4 -{OAs(C 6 H 4 Me-p) 3 } 2 ](ClO 4 ) 3 have been synthesized, and characterized to the extent that their limited stability in solution allows. Infrared and electronic spectra are analogous to those of the known BF 4 salts, but the expected diamagnetic and intermediate-spin magnetic states, respectively, could not be established. The trans-[Co(CNCH 2 Ph) 4 {OAs (C 6 H 4 Me-p) 3 } 2 ](ClO 4 ) 3 complex, nevertheless, shows labile character in ligand-substitution reactions with trialkylphosphines, producing trans-[Co(CNCH 2 Ph) 4 (PR 3 ) 2 ](ClO 4 ) 3 (PR 3 = P(C 3 H 7 -n) 3 or P(C 4 H 9n) 3 ) in apparent instantaneous reactions at 0°C.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
