El objetivo de esta investigación fue establecer la precisión en la identificación de puntos cefalométricos de los residentes del postgrado de ortodoncia UC. Se utilizaron 10 radiografías digitalizadas seleccionadas aleatoriamente para ser analizadas mediante trazado asistido por computadora (software Odomax) por 7 residentes del primer año y un ortodoncista como control. Se computaron las coordenadas de la localización de los puntos cefalométricos: S, Na, A, B, Go y Gn. Se realizaron gráficas de dispersión 2D y elipses con 95% de confianza. Se evaluó la precisión en la localización de los puntos cefalométricos y el límite preestablecido de tolerancia clínica fue de 2 mm. Se reportó mayor dispersión en sentido vertical en los puntos Na (-2,031 mm), A (-1,028mm) y B (0,262mm); mientras que en sentido horizontal S (0,0504mm) y Gn (-3,63mm). El patrón de Gonion fue totalmente disperso en ambos ejes (-2,232mm). Se concluye que la identificación de puntos cefalométricos mediante el trazado asistido por computadora no mostró precisión en el grupo de residentes evaluados. Valores de precisión clínicamente aceptable se encontraron solamente en el punto Silla.
El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar los conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas de Odontopediatras acerca de las maloclusiones y condiciones relacionadas. Se trata de un estudio transversal no experimental donde se elaboró un cuestionario en línea acerca de los años de experiencia, número de especialidades, lugar de trabajo, condiciones oclusales y faciales evaluadas, toma de decisión para remisión al ortodoncista y lugar final de atención de los pacientes. 82 especialistas respondieron al instrumento pertenecientes a nueve países. En los resultados se encontró que más del 98% de los encuestados afirman evaluar hábitos, overbite, mordidas cruzadas y apiñamiento; por su parte el retrognatismo fue la condición menos evaluada. Respecto a las condiciones de referencia al ortodoncista, las asimetrías dentales y las alteraciones maxilo-mandibulares son remitidas al menos por el 78% de los encuestados. El lugar de tratamiento para ellos puede ser tanto en la consulta del ortodoncista o del odontopediatra según el caso. No se detectaron diferencias entre el número de características referidas y los años de experiencia. Se puede concluir de este estudio que los odontopediatras tienen adecuados conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas para evaluar la maloclusión frecuentemente; refiriendo los casos que sugieren una alta complejidad. Se recomienda incrementar la comunicación entre las disciplinas para una atención integral y a tiempo.
