Neer II was born on November 10, 1917 and died on February 28, 2011 on the same rural estate, in Vinita, Oklahoma, USA. A son and grandson of doctors, he studied at Dartmouth College, at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, and at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, where he began his internship, finally becoming a Professor Emeritus, culminating in an impressive academic career. He was a surgeon in the US Army during the Second World War, stationed in Europe, Japan and the Philippines.After the war, he returned to Columbia University, where he Editorial TriBuTE -THE mAN WHO CHANGEd THE FACE OF OrTHOPEdiCSOur specialization is still in its infancy.
