Wound healing is a complicated procedure which necessitates laying out a suitable wound healing system or dressing which possesses key factors like a wet wound location, avoidance of microbial action and absorption of exudates. Various wound dressings can be accessible but not all can meet the particular conditions of a perfect wound healing system to complete proper wound healing process. Poly(Lactic Acid) (PLA) Nano Structure Mats are a new class of materials that possess great potential in wound healing because of biocompatibility, bio absorbability, biodegradability, absorption of exudates from the wound, physical safety of the wounded tissue and the probability to free useful molecules. Our review article gives a brief intro on the wound and skin structure and afterwards gives information about the peerless characteristics of PLA Nano Structure Mats remarkable for wound healing. Moreover, new recent investigations about PLA Nano Structure Mats usage for wound healing applications were also explored.
The success of suture yarn depends upon its tensile and bending properties. As sutures pass through the tissue, it should possess enough strength to hold the tissue together and should be flexible so as to be knotted. The aim of the present work was to improve the strength of silk suture without affecting its bending properties. Silk sutures were fabricated using a circular braiding machine. Structural variations were made by varying the diameter and by producing core sheath suture yarn. The resulting suture yarn is coated with chitosan – a biopolymer. The mechanical performances of suture materials coated with and without chitosan were studied and compared with commercial suture. It was observed that the suture with a core-sheath structure performed well during tensile and knot testing. The coarser yarns exhibited higher bending rigidity and lower knot strength than the finer suture yarns.
Anahtar Kelimeler: ananas yaprağı lifi, biyobozunur, çevre dostu, doğal lif, PALF Sustainable textile fibers obtained from agricultural wastes: Pineapple leaf fibers ABSTRACT Pineapple leaf fiber, as is evident from its name, is a natural fiber that is obtained from pineapple plant. Tons of pineapple leaves are wasted every year since pineapple plant is mostly cultivated for only fruit production. Pineapple fiber has high cellulose content in their structure and is known to be a useful textile material with excellent mechanical properties and hydrophilic character. Furthermore, this fiber has become a preferred material in the production of biocomposites owing to its properties such as easily being accessible, biodegradable and recyclable. Today, pineapple leaf fiber is an important raw material resource that can contribute to sustainable production with both utilization of agro-wastes and its eco-friendly properties. In this review, topics such as structure, properties, end uses and extraction methods of pineapple fibers are examined in detail.
