This study is carried out with the aim of determining the awareness and recognition of the forest management certificate at the level of managers and employees of the General Directorate of Forestry. The scope of this research consists of the field service units of the General Directorate of Forestry. A questionnaire based on face to face interview technique was utilized as the data collection tool. In the study, 71 of all 243 forest managements located in the nation have been contacted and a survey has been applied to 146 managers and employees. In this context, a scale, in which 34 proposals are used under 5 main factors, was formed. The obtained data were analyzed in SPSS program by using non-parametric tests. The research results have shown that the FSC certification system has the highest recognition level. On the other hand, GDF managers and employees were determined to have low awareness for forest management certification. In addition, the geographical region where the forest management is situated, the certificate usage status of the management and the method utilized in the forest products sales were identified as variables with statistically significant differences (p<0.05).
The Turkey forest products market losing its monopoly property has led to a reduction in the income of General Directorate of Forestry (GDF). Forest Enterprises Directorate (FED) regulate the wood sale revenue separately and the success level of each managements is considered as separately. In this study, some factors affecting the sale price of wood based products for General Directorate of Forestry are analyzed. In this context, the results of the 5-year wood sale revenue sale auctions between the years 2014-2018 of 2 Regional Directorate of Forests (RDF), which are close to each other in terms of geographical location, and 21 FEDs operating under them are analyzed. Evaluations were conducted on the basis of stumpage sales and traditional warehouse sales practices. The research results showed that there are statistically significant (p<0.05) differences on the sales revenues of the GDF due to accession rate of appraised value consisting of the RDF, FED, stumpage sales or traditional warehouse sales, and the year and month variables in which forest products are offered for sale. Likewise, it has been detected that the proximity of FEDs, which regulate wood-based product sales, to the high-capacity forest products industry managements in terms of accessibility with regard to geographical location has a significant effect on sales revenues.
The forest industry is one of the sectors where occupational accidents are the most common. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the differences in opinions of personnel in enterprises, which fall into Turkish wood, wood products and mushroom production group, concerning occupational health and safety. Within this framework, a questionnaire application was conducted based on face to face meeting in a total of 68 enterprises in Erzincan province. In the questionnaire, the 5-point likert rating scale was used in determination of agreement level to scale items containing 9 different opinions concerning occupational health and safety issue underlying demographic characteristics of personnel and features of enterprises. As the result of the study, it was detected that machinery maintenance frequencies are too far, necessary personal protective equipment is not supplied in time and basic occupational health and safety principle implementation has deficiencies. Besides, statistically significant differences (p<0.05) were identified between opinions of employees in relation to variances as age, marital status, department worked, total time of employment in the enterprise, machinery maintenance frequency that is applied, workplace change intervals and exposure to occupational accidents.
ÖzetSon yıllarda Dünya genelinde odun dışı orman ürünlerine yönelik artan ilgi ve talep, bu kaynakların etkin ve verimli kullanımıyla birlikte sürdürülebilirliğinin sağlanmasını zorunlu kılmıştır. Bu çalışma, odun dışı orman ürünleri kaynaklarının ve faydalanmanın sürdürülebilirliğinin sağlanmasında en önemli paydaşlar arasında yer alan orman köylülerinin konuya ilişkin farkındalık düzeyinin değerlendirmesini amaç edinmiştir. Bu bağlamda, Elazığ Orman Bölge Müdürlüğü sorumluluk alanında yer alan toplam 144 orman köylüsüne yüz yüze görüşme tekniğine dayalı anket uygulaması yapılmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda, orman köylülerinin odun dışı orman ürünlerine ilişkin görüşleri arasında mesleği, orman kaynaklarından faydalanma durumu ve bu ürünleri kullanmaya başlama nedenleri değişkenlerine göre istatistiksel düzeyde anlamlı farklılıklar bulunduğu (p<0.05) tespit edilmiştir. Diğer yandan, odun dışı orman ürünleri kullanım nedeninin genel itibariyle eskiden gelen deneyimler olduğu ve katılımcıların büyük çoğunluğunun bu ürünlerden herhangi bir şekilde gelir elde etmediği anlaşılmıştır. Aynı zamanda çalışma sonuçları, söz konusu ürünlerin üretim ve kontrolünün devlet denetiminde olması gerektiği kanısının katılımcılar arasında yaygın bir görüş olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. AbstractIn recent years, the raising interest and demand for non wood forest products around the world has entailed its durability as well as the effective and productive utilization of these resources. This study aims the evaluation of the awareness levels of forest villagers, who are among the most important shareholders in obtaining the sustainability and utilization of non wood forest product resources, concerning this issue. In this context, a survey application based on tbe face to face interview was conducted to a total of 144 forest villagers in the responsibility area of Elazığ Forest District Directorate. As a result of the study, statistically significant differences (p<0.05) have been detected in the views of forest villagers concerning the non wood forest products according to variables of occupation, reasons for starting to use these products, utilization of forest resources. On the other hand, it has been understood that the reason for the usage of non wood forest products generally originates from the past experiences and most of the participants doesn't earn any income from these products. At the same time, study findings have revealed that having production and control of products in question state mandated is a common view between participants.
