El presente artículo se realizó mediante una revisión documental que utilizó el procedimiento del estado de arte o estado del conocimiento, permitiendo un análisis de la literatura del estudio en desarrollo de la estructura de los saberes previos, estrategias metacognitivas y transformación semiótica en la resolución de problemas algebraicos, desde la dimensión conceptual, empírica y hermenéutica, para continuar explorando, hilvanando discursos y comprendiendo las tendencias de los estudios a profundidad. En ese sentido, se define cada uno de ellos y se describe las tendencias o enfoques, desde el ámbito teórico, epistémico y metodológico, concluyendo que se utiliza una diversidad de metodologías cualitativas, cuantitativas, y algunos diseños mixtos o plurimetódicos, y que los procesos característicos del funcionamiento articulado de los saberes previos, estrategias metacognitivas y transformación semiótica en su ambiente natural de aprendizaje, son fundamentales en los análisis investigativos de transición de procesos aritméticos a procesos algebraicos.
