Descriptions of all stages from the rapid streams on the foot of Mt. the illustrations In May of 1969 and June of 1973, black-fly survey were carried out on the plateau of Kiso Kaida (altitude about 1,2oom) ]ocated on the east foot of Mt. Ontake. Many pupae and larvae of a Gnus-like Simuliid were collected from the rapid streams of this plateau. The reared adults, associated pupal pelts and larva showed to be a new species having close aranities to coibis Twinn and 7vstnduiJt LundstrOm. Simulium (Gnus) kisoense new species DESCRIPTION Female General body color brownish-black to black. Length: body 3.00-3.50mm, wing L'.80-3.25 mm. Head dull black, sparsely clothed with golden hair, Frons dull black, normal width, with fine brown hairs. Clypeus slightly wider than length, covered with whitish-grey pollinosity and sparse brown hairs. Hind margin of eyes with erect, black bristles. Antenna entirely dull brownish-black, 11segmented, covered with short, golden and black bristles. Mandible with 35-39 serations.
