The paper presents proposals to evaluate the torsional strength of wide-flange steel members. The discusser questions the correctness of the proposed design equations, as they apparently violate the principles of structural mechanics. It must be emphasized that the Canadian steel standard, CSA S16 (CSA 2001) has been a design source for many projects operating nationally and internationally with billions of dollars in capital cost and design liabilities. It will be shown that the random ''copy'' and ''paste'' philosophy used by the author to develop these equations virtually leads to design errors.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
