This study analyzes the effect of nominal exchange rate changes in the 2005:1-2020:4 period, applying econometric methods to examine Turkey's economy at the level of consumer price index (CPI) and producer price index (PPI). For this purpose, shortand long-term co-integration relationships between Turkey's inflation, exchange rate, industrial production, and import unit value indices in the period 2005-2020 were investigated. Two different models were created based on CPI and PPI variables as representative of the inflation rate. We used the auto-regressive distributed lag (ARDL)boundary test to determine the short and This work is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License
The relationship between the Islamic banking and monetary policies and how this relationship is reflected in the real sector has become a matter of growing attention in daily discussions primarily because of the growing importance of Islamic banking activities. To this end, a review of the effectiveness of the loan scheme of Islamic banks in Turkey holds the potential to make a remarkable contribution to the literature. This study seeks to analyze whether the loan schemes of the public and private participation banks, operative within the dual banking system in Turkey, are effective. To this end, the study relies on the variance decomposition and impulse response function analyses of the VAR models compiled from the monthly data between 2009 and 2020. The industrial production index represents the economic activity, the interest rate applied to the consumer loans, and the total money supply (M1), representing the monetary policy instruments. The total loans and deposit variables made available for the participation banks, representing the bank loan scheme, other variables, including the nominal currency rate and consumer price indexes, have been included in the model. Against the one-unit shocks applied to the monetary policy and interest rates, the responses of the currency rate, inflation rate, industrial production index, participation banks’ total loans, and total deposits have been measured. According to the findings obtained from the impulse-response functions, it is determined that the credit channel in participation banks is partially additional since total loans and deposits in participation banks react to monetary policies in certain periods due to changes in money supply and interest rates, but they cannot reflect this to the production level.
