La retinosis pigmentaria (RP) comprende un grupo de enfermedades degenerativas de la retina que afectan la función y el campo visual. Se caracteriza por ceguera nocturna y pérdida de campo visual periférico, y suele tener debut precoz y juvenil. Este artículo tiene como propósito describir los hallazgos clínicos visuales y oculares en 12 pacientes con retinosis pigmentaria. Para esto, se evaluaron 12 pacientes con RP, mediante examen visual, campimetría y retinografía. Se halló que el 50 % de los pacientes presentó astigmatismo hipermetrópico y 42 %, astigmatismo miópico. Un mayor acúmulo de pigmento en zona superior de retina se observó en el 41,7 %, con agudeza visual entre 20/400 y percepción luminosa. Un tercio de la muestra presentó baja visión profunda y umbral de sensibilidad ≤ a 18db. El escotoma relativo fue más frecuente, aunque en agudezas visuales entre 20/400 y PL el 25 % y 41,7 % de los pacientes presentaron escotoma absoluto en ojo derecho e izquierdo respectivamente. El uso de corrección en pacientes con escotoma relativo generó mejoría en el 41,7 % y 33,3 % (ojo derecho e izquierdo). Todos presentaron palidez cérea del disco óptico y el 92 % atenuación arteriolar. Se concluyó que los signos característicos del fondo ocular de los participantes con RP fueron palidez cérea de disco óptico, pigmentación en forma de espículas óseas, atenuación arteriolar, campo visual ≤10° centrales con visión en túnel. Los pacientes con baja visión profunda presentaron mayor acúmulo de pigmento en retina superior periférica, umbral de sensibilidad menor de 18dB y escotomas de tipo absoluto
Las patologías visuales y oculares son parte de las principales causas de pérdida visual a nivel mundial. Objetivo: Describir la morbilidad visual y ocular analizada en la Región Central de Colombia acorde con los reportes RIPS (Registros Individuales de Prestación de Servicios de salud) 2013 - 2015. Metodología: Estudio cuantitativo, descriptivo de corte transversal, retrospectivo de patologías visuales y oculares más frecuentes registradas en la población de la región central. Para el análisis, se utilizaron los códigos del capítulo VII de la Clasificación Internacional de Enfermedades Décima Versión (CIE-10), en 18 grupos según clasificación definida por la Red Epidemiológica Iberoamericana para la Salud Visual y Ocular (REISVO). Resultados: Las patologías con mayor morbilidad en la región central fueron trastornos de: conjuntiva (15.22%); músculos extraoculares (13.37%); acomodación y refracción (13.06%); el menor índice lo presentaron los trastornos corneales (0.7% y 1.03%). Conclusiones: Los trastornos conjuntivales fueron las afecciones con mayor índice en la región central de Colombia, en edades entre 15-44 años. El género femenino presentó mayor índice de afecciones visuales, y el régimen contributivo, mayor número de consultas de salud visual.
Antecedentes: La meningitis meningocócica es una enfermedad infecciosa grave que afecta las meninges y la médula espinal, causada principalmente por microorganismos Neisseria meningitidis. El objetivo fue describir el brote de meningitis identificado en semana epidemiológica 49 de 2018 en Ciénaga, Magdalena. Metodología: Se estimó frecuencia y porcentaje de la presentación de los casos por sexo, ubicación geográfica, caso contacto. En relación con la enfermedad: fecha de inicio de síntomas, fecha de consulta, exámenes de laboratorio, fecha de egreso y condición final. Se realizó BAC con formato preestructurado. Resultados: Se confirmaron tres casos de meningitis meningocócica en menores de cinco años de edad pertenecientes al ICBF, uno de ellos con condición final muerto, confirmado por muestra de líquido cefalorraquídeo con resultado de positivo para Neisseria meningitidis con serogrupo synD(Nm B). Se identificaron 127 contactos, se vacunaron 49 contactos directos de los tres casos y se hizo tratamiento profiláctico a 69 contactos del personal de salud. Conclusiones: La meningitis meningocócica es una enfermedad mortal de muy rápida evolución con cuadro clínico de difícil complejo por lo que se deben intensificar las acciones de prevención, control y vigilancia de esta enfermedad.
Este artículo tiene el objetivo de presentar los hallazgos clínicos en dos pacientes diabéticos, mediante angiografía fluoresceínica, retinografía y campimetría. Se adelantó un estudio observacional descriptivo de corte transversal tipo reporte de caso, donde se seleccionaron dos pacientes diabéticos tipo I y II con diagnóstico mayor de 10 años de evolución de DM. Como resultado, se presentan dos casos clínicos de pacientes masculinos, con diagnóstico de DM mayor a 10 años de evolución; paciente de 86 años con DM tipo II de 20 años de evolución con cambios característicos de RD, con panfotocoagulación en el OD y paciente de 25 años con DM tipo I de 11 años de evolución, que muestra cambios incipientes de RD, a pesar del tiempo de evolución de la enfermedad
