The study aims to examine the phenomenon of violence against women through intimate partner violence. The studies on violence against women in Turkey have generally examined domestic violence perpetrated by husbands against married women and have discussed about its results. Intimate partner violence as distinct from domestic violence includes not only violence experienced by married women but also violence experienced by single and divorced women. So that both husbands and other intimate partners in women's private lives such as boyfriends, exboyfriends, or ex-husbands etc., becomes the perpetrators of violence against women. This community based cross-sectional study showed that prevalence of falling was high in aged persons living in centre of Çanakkale located in the western part of Turkey. Moreover, the risk was increased in women, those who cannot take care for themselves, and those with low standard of living.
