One of the fundamental aims of economic policies is to increase capital accumulation in terms of investment that is necessary to maintain a desirable and sustainable growth rate in the developing countries. The majority of empirical studies show that per capita GDP growth, foreign trade, capital flows, external debt, public sector borrowing requirements, inflation and interest rate are the main determinants of investment rate. Recently, there is an increasing emphasis on the role of the financial sector in this process, since a financial system, in essence, mobilizes saving to investment. In particular, it can be argued that a well-functioning and developed financial system may efficiently mobilize available resources for investment. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate whether financial development has contributed to an increase in investment in Turkey. To reach an empirical and firm conclusion, an investment function, including the traditional potential determinants along with financial development, is estimated by utilizing the developments in the time series econometrics in terms of unit root tests that allow structural breaks and co-integration for the period 1970-2009 in Turkey.
This study applies Thirlwall's law to Turkish economy from 1987:Q1 to 2011:Q4 period using Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model and Kalman Filter method. Turkish economy has balance of payments deficits for last three decades. According to Thirlwall's law this deficits constrains countries' growth rates and therefore when countries long term growth rates are analyzed the demand side of the economy and the balance of payment performance must be taken into account. The hypothesis of Thirwall's law is tested by various forms of the model. The finding implies that balance of constraint growth model is not valid for Turkey.
This study examined the relationship between economic growth and energy consumption in the period 1986–2015 for 15 selected developed countries. In this study, in which the dynamic panel analysis method was used, cross-section dependence and homogeneity tests were taken into account. Accordingly, unit root and cointegration tests were decided. According to the cointegration test results, it has been determined that there is a long-term relationship between economic growth and energy consumption. The results obtained from the Dumitrescu-Hurlin causality test analysis show that there is a bidirectional causality relationship. As a result of the analysis, it has been concluded that economic growth and energy consumption are the causes of each other for the period of 1986–2015 in 15 selected developed countries.JEL Classification:O40, O13, C23.
Game theory is defined as a mathematical approach that argues that the earnings of an individual or group in a competitive environment depend on the decisions of other individuals and groups participating in this competitive environment. When evaluated from this point of view, game theory emerges as a strategic decision-making tool, which is also expressed as the mathematics of competition. With the increasing competition in today's conditions, game theory, also known as game theory, has started to come to the fore. Especially with the emergence of asymmetric information in the markets recently, the importance of game theory has been understood even more. When evaluated from this point of view, game theory, especially in the banking sector, where asymmetric information is widespread, has started to have a great importance in lending and giving, since banks do not have full information about the investment of the customer receiving the loan and the future of this investment. In this direction, in this study, general strategic approaches towards loans given by banks have been developed and examined within the framework of game theory. As a result, it has been understood that the most correct strategy is to apply credit to both parties and to repay the loans they have received.
With the spread of liberalization and capital movements, world trade balances have been reshaped. Especially with technological developments, competition between countries has increased even more and foreign trade has become inevitable. Since the effect of foreign trade in ensuring a healthy and sustainable growth rate cannot be ignored, countries have worked to improve their exports and imports, which are an important part of foreign trade. Some studies in the literature on this subject assume that exports have a greater effect on growth, while some studies have suggested that imports are more important. For this purpose, in this study, the relationship between foreign trade and growth is analyzed by using the export, import and growth data of between 1994-2019 period in 19 developed countries. In this direction, firstly, unit root test is performed in the study, and then Pedroni cointegration test is conducted to analyze the long-term relationship between variables. As a result of the analysis, it is understood that there is a cointegration relationship between variables. Therefore, after this stage, the FMOLS test is performed and the size of the relationship between variables is tried to be revealed. The results have shown that both exports and imports increase growth, but exports have a higher impact than imports on growth. Finally, Dumitrescu Hurlin panel causality test is conducted and while growth is found to be the cause of imports, imports could not be found as the cause of growth. On the other hand, it is understood as a result of the analysis that exports and growth mutually affect each other.
