Romanların yoğun sayıda yaşadığı 12 ilde TÜBİTAK destekli olarak yürütülen bir projenin verilerine dayanılarak hazırlanan bu çalışma Türkiye' deki Romanlarda evlilik pratiklerini incelemektedir. Yürütülen saha araştırması kapsamında yüz yüze görüşmeye dayalı anket formu, derinlemesine mülakat ve odak grup görüşmeleri uygulanmıştır. Toplamda 1568 hanede yüz yüze görüşmeye dayalı anket formu uygulanmış, 120 derinlemesine mülakat ve 26 odak grup çalışması gerçekleştirilmiştir. 1568 hanede uygulanan yüz yüze görüşmeye dayalı anket formu kapsamında, bu hanelerde yaşayan 6645 kişi hakkındaki bilgilere ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmada, Romanlarda evlilik biçimi, küçük yaşta evlilik, akraba evliliği, başlık parası ve tek eşlilik gibi konular ele alınmaktadır. Araştırma bulgularına göre erken yaşta evlilik, kaçma-kaçırmak yoluyla evlilik ve iç grup evliliği Türkiye' deki tüm Roman topluluklarında görülen ortak sosyolojik olgulardır. Ayrıca, başlık parası ve akraba evliliği gibi uygulamalar ise bazı illerdeki Romanlar arasında daha yaygındır. Romanlarda yaygın olan evliliğe ilişkin pratikler, tutumlar ve değerler, bir yandan Roman kültürünün yaşatılmasına hizmet ederken, bir yandan da Romanların kendi içinde kapalı bir topluluk şeklinde yaşamasına yol açmaktadır. Bu süreç, Roman kimliği ve kültürünün jenerasyonlar arasında aktarılarak, kendi dinamikleri içerisinde canlı tutulmasını ve yeniden üretilmesini sağlamaktadır.
