The study assessed the effectiveness of developed comic strips as an instructional material on teaching specific science concepts. The study also determined the perception of the respondents on the use of developed comic strips with regards the enhancement of their science process skills. Moreover, the study provided results on the mean difference between the pre-test and posttest performance of the respondents when aided by developed comic strips. The researchers made used of validated rubrics and survey-questionnaire as the primary tools of the study. The findings showed that the developed comic strip was effective as an instructional material in teaching science concepts, on waste generation and management topics in particular. It was rated acceptable and commendable by the expert-evaluators. There was a significant difference between the pre-test and posttest mean scores of the respondents. The respondents positively perceived that the developed comic strips had enhanced their inferring and communicating science process skills. Hence, the results further motivate the respondents to appreciate waste generation and management and put value on its effect to human and environment. Future utilization of this comic strip as an instructional material in teaching specific science concepts would raise environmental awareness and campaign.
The study was conducted to determine the extent of effectiveness on the implementation of Education Management Information System (EMIS) as part of educational management functions in public elementary schools of Surigao Del Sur Philippines. Descriptive survey method using a researcher-made questionnaire was used. The respondents of the study were nine selected public elementary schools from the three clusters of Surigao Del Sur Division. Findings revealed that from the eight (8) modules of EMIS, Pupil MIS received the highest mean while Finance MIS obtained the least as to the implementation of EMIS Modules. Planning and monitoring were found to be high as to the level of effectiveness of EMIS in public elementary schools. The study concludes that most of the public schools in Surigao Del Sur Division, regardless with its type, effectively implements EMIS Modules. However, Finance MIS requires further enrichment on planning, implementation, and evaluation. Hence, the study recommends strengthening of EMIS modules particularly on Finance MIS and establishment of sustainable EMIS by sharing the best practices in implementing the EMIS of the different schools.
The study is focused on preliminary analyzes of the energy consumption in rural school buildings, particularly in Surigao Del Sur, Mindanao, Philippines. The study looked into the determination of different contributory factors on energy consumption, conservation practices of employees and annual average energy consumption records. The exploratory research design was used where secondary data from the annual energy consumption bill of selected rural school buildings served as primary source of data. The data covered the records from years 2014 to 2019 indicating the fluctuation of energy consumption of the university. Consecutive sampling method was also employed in the selection of participants to be surveyed and interviewed for conservation practices. Based on the results, the number of occupants and their behaviors significantly contributes on the fluctuation of energy consumption in school because it pertains to the working hours extended when important activities are scheduled. Some of the identified contributory factors on energy consumption can be sourced out from how faculty and administrative personnel utilized the school lighting (84%), air-condition (51%) and number of operating hours occupying the schools (78%) and operating electronic equipment (25%). Although there are records on high increase of energy consumptions in buildings, faculty and personnel are still aware on conservation practices they could contribute to reduce the energy operating cost.
Parents play a vital role in increasing the performance and ensuring the good manners of their children in school. In the context of Indigenous People (IP), parental participation in educating their children is a meaningful involvement that benefits student learning directly. This study aims to determine the parental involvement of indigenous people in selected elementary schools in Northern Part of Mindanao, Philippines. The study specifically identified the profile of the IP parents, parents’ contributory factors and involvement on the aspect of communication, learning at home, and financial support. The extent of parental involvement on the behavior of their children and significant relationship between respondents’ profile were also measured. The study utilized a descriptive-quantitative method to explore how the IP parents extend their support to their children through survey, actual visitation and interview to validate the accuracy of the data gathered. Selected IP parents from IP elementary schools were surveyed using a researcher-made questionnaire as the main tool in the study. Data were analyzed using frequency counting, simple percentage, weighted mean, and Pearson R correlation. The IP parents fall to marginal classification in terms of educational background (45.83% are elementary undergraduate) with monthly income of less than fifteen thousand (less than the minimum wage). Regardless of race and background, IP parents’ instincts are the same with common parents in supporting their children in school-related activities. However, issues on communication, learning at home, and financial support extended by IP parents to their children still need to be improved. In addition, parents’ involvement influence academic endeavor of the students because they are given chances to enjoy the opportunity of free and supportive education. Thus, parents should constantly monitor the performance of their children at school to help them improve in their studies and build confidence to do better.
