Сумарна встановлена потужність відновлюваних джерел енергії (ВДЕ) у 2021 році досягнула майже 10 відсотків від встановленої потужності ОЕС України. Це стало можливим завдяки державному стимулюванню у вигляді «зеленого тарифу». Однак, відсутність обґрунтованого підходу до визначення точки приєднання ВДЕ до електричної мережі (ЕМ) та її потужності призвело до зменшення ефективності функціонування ЕМ. Через неспівмірні потужності ВДЕ та споживачів, які приєднанні до одного фідера, збільшуються втрати активної потужності, погіршуються показники якості електричної енергії (відхилення напруги), перевантажуються елементи електричної мережі (лінії електропередачі, силові трансформатори). Це все посилюється тим, що ЕМ проєктувались та будувались за принципами централізованого електропостачання, для яких поява зустрічних потоків електроенергії є ненормальним режимом. Фотоелектричні станції, які становлять майже 80 % ВДЕ в Україні, мають технічну можливість реалізувати вплив на перетікання реактивної енергії в мережі. Цю можливість підтверджено аналізом результатів натурних експериментів на діючих об'єктах та математичним моделюванням засобами Simulink Matlab. Оптимізація перетоків реактивної потужності є найефективнішим засобом зменшення втрат активної потужності і енергії та покращення показників якості електричної енергії. Тому в роботі запропоновано метод визначення кількості генерованої реактивної потужності фотоелектричною станцією в залежності від точки її приєднання і конфігурації мережі.
