Мета статті полягає у вивченні стану виробництва малопоширених видів овочів, обґрунтуванні сучасних проблем та шляхів ефективного розвитку цього сегменту ринку овочів на перспективу. Результати. Розглянуто сучасний стан виробництва малопоширених і зеленних овочевих культур в Україні. Установлено частку кожної культури у загальних посівних площах і валовому виробництві. Наведено дані щодо розміщення виробництва малопоширених і пряносмакових культур за категоріями господарств. Представлено рекомендовані норми споживання малопоширених видів овочів за їх основними групами на душу населення. Визначено причини, що стримують ефективний розвиток цього сегменту овочевого ринку, до яких належать: високі ціни на природний газ та електроенергію, застосування застарілих технологій та відсутність інновацій, відсутність необхідних потужностей для доробки і зберігання, відсутність професійного брендингу та ефективної інфраструктури, низький розвиток агрологістики, невідповідність вітчизняної овочевої продукції європейським стандартам. Викладено загальну стратегію і пріоритетні напрямки наукового забезпечення виробництва малопоширених видів овочів на перспективу. Висновки. З підвищенням матеріального добробуту населення змінюються загальні стандарти, зокрема структура продовольчого кошика. Дослідження соціологів і дієтологів доводять, що за цих умов у структурі харчування зменшується частка споживання хліба, картоплі та цукру, й натомість збільшується частка овочів, особливо малопоширених та пряно-смакових культур. Цим орієнтиром, поряд з доцільністю максимального використання наявного природно-економічного потенціалу для виробництва малопоширених видів, й потрібно керуватися, обґрунтовуючи розвиток галузі овочівництва в Україні на перспективу
