Resumo: A osteoporose é uma doença óssea metabólica crônica, progressiva, silenciosa e multifatorial, que acarreta perda de massa óssea e deterioração da microarquitetura do tecido ósseo. O objetivo desta pesquisa é entender o que ocorre com a musculatura mastigatória nestes indivíduos durante a fadiga muscular. Participaram desta pesquisa 40 indivíduos com idade entre 45 e 75 anos, de ambos os foram divididos igualmente em dois grupos: GOGrupo Osteoporose e GC -Grupo Controle. Os participantes foram submetidos a análise do limiar de fadiga eletromiográfico através de um eletromiógrafo de superfície (MyoSystem-I P84). Os resultados foram analisados estatisticamente pelo SPSS versão 21.0 por intermédio do teste estatístico "teste t para amostras pareadas. Nossos resultados evidenciaram que houve um diminuição significativa da frequência mediana no músculo temporal esquerdo no grupo osteoporose e temporal direito no grupo controle, entretanto houve uma diminuição da frequência mediana em ambos os grupos mesmo não sendo significante. Esse conhecimento será importante para verificar a incidência de alterações nos padrões de atuação desta musculatura que ao longo do tempo possam comprometer a cinemática e a cinética mastigatória, propiciando uma redução da qualidade de vida destes indivíduos. Material e métodosParticiparam desta pesquisa 40 indivíduos com idade entre 45 e 75 anos, de ambos os gêneros e, seguindo os critérios de inclusão e exclusão deste estudo, foram divididos igualmente em dois grupos: GO -Grupo Osteoporose e GC -Grupo Controle, constituído por indivíduos saudáveis, pareados sujeito a sujeito, por gênero, idade, peso e estatura. Os participantes desta pesquisa foram submetidos à avaliação eletromiográfica utilizando o aparelho da MyoSystem-I P84 dos músculos temporais e masseteres para verificar o limiar de fadiga eletromiográfico através da frequência mediana, durante a contração isométrica máxima do apertamento dental por tempo indeterminado [2]. A contração isométrica máxima do apertamento dental por 10 segundos foi utilizada como fator de normalização devido a variabilidade entre os participantes e entre os músculos [3]. Os dados eletromiográficos normalizados foram tabulados e analisados utilizando o programa estatístico SPSS 21.0 com por intermédio do teste estatístico "teste t para amostras pareadas" (p<0,05). Resumo: Dentre os sintomas que os indivíduos com lesão cerebelar apresentam, as ataxias são foco principal de estudos. Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo avaliar a espessura muscular e a força de mordida molar máxima em indivíduos com ataxia e compará-los com indivíduos saudáveis. Foram selecionados 16 indivíduos com idade entre 20 a 60 anos de ambos os gêneros que foram divididos em dois grupos (G1 -Ataxia e G2 -Controle). Os participantes foram submetidos a análise da espessura muscular e força de mordida molar máxima.Os resultados foram analisados estatisticamente pelo SPSS versão 21.0 por intermédio do teste estatístico "teste t para amostras independentes". Na avaliação ultrassonográfica verificou-se que na condição clínica de repouso e de máxima intercuspidação habitual, os indivíduos com ataxia apresentaram um aumento da espessura muscular, valores foram estatisticamente significantes para os músculos temporais na condição clínica de repouso (p≤0,05). Na avaliação da força muscular, os indivíduos com ataxia apresentaram menor força muscular em ambas as hemifaces avaliadas, valores estatisticamente não significantes (p≤0,05). Desta forma, neste estudo pode-se concluir que os indivíduos com ataxia apresentam aumento da espessura muscular em todos os músculos avaliados e redução da força muscular molar máxima. Resumo: O processo mastigatório identifica o nível da habilidade de mastigação do indivíduo e fornece informações importantes para o diagnóstico adequado da função mastigatória. As doenças crônico-degenerativas modificam a função do organismo humano, alterando a qualidade de vida. Esta pesquisa avaliou a mastigação habitual (amendoim e uva passa) e não habitual (Parafilm M ® ) de oito mulheres adultas com artrite reumatoide, por meio da integral da envoltória do sinal eletromiográfico dos ciclos mastigatórios e comparou os resultados com mulheres saudáveis. As participantes foram distribuídas em dois grupos: com artrite reumatoide (GAR; idade média 51,50 ± 3,12 anos) e sem artrite reumatoide (GC; idade média de 50,75 ± 3,18 anos). A atividade eletromiográfica normalizada pelo apertamento dental em contração voluntária máxima foi significativa (p ≤ 0,05) na mastigação de parafilme no masseter direito= [(GAR=0,66±0,09), (GC=1,09±0,13)] e mastigação de amendoim no masseter direito = [(GAR=0,95±0,05), (GC=1,35±0,13)]. Houve diminuição na eficiência dos ciclos mastigatórios habituais e não habituais de mulheres adultas com artrite reumatoide.
