Saratov Scientific School by Biology and Genetics of Plant Reproduction Systems was formed under the leadership of Doctors of Biology S. S. Khokhlov and V. S. Tyrnov. Most of the unique research was performed in the Laboratory of Radiation and Experimental Genetics, established in 1958. Later it was transformed into the Department of genetics and reproductive biology of the Saratov State University Botanical Garden. Over the past 60 years, Saratov scientists have made a significant contribution to the development of fundamental and applied science. Population-embryological features of apomixis were studied, theoretical and applied aspects of haploidy were investigated, and techniques for reproduction in both in vivo and in vitro for the valuable crops were developed. The 11 patents and copyright certificates were received. Overall the results of the research are summarized in the 13 monographs. At the present time, the research, that initiated by the school founders, is continuing by their pupils at the modern level of the biological science development.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
