Эффект памяти формы (ЭПФ) и сверхупругости проявляется более ярко в сплавах на основе никелида титана своими функциональными характеристиками: повышенной прочностью, высокой коррозионной стойкостью, способностью работать в труднодоступных конструкциях с агрессивной окружающей средой, таких как устройства для автоматического пожаротушения -спринклеры. Восстановление исходной формы при реализации обусловлено превращением мартенсита в аустенит путем нагрева и, наоборот -из аустенита в мартенсит путем охлаждения. Многократные циклы «охлаждение-нагрев» (термоциклирование (ТЦ)) в сплаве TiNi приводят к генерации дислокаций в кристаллической решетке, которые влияют на повышение предела текучести. Однако ТЦ не применяется для повышения предела текучести, но с использованием ТЦ возможна имитация реальных условий эксплуатаций изделий, которые подвергаются термоциклическим нагрузкам в условиях агрессивной среды. В 2005 г. был запатентован спринклер, оросительная головка которого была выполнена из сплава TiNi на основе ЭПФ, данный сплав предполагал лучшее быстродействие и меньшие затраты. Быстродействие обеспечивалось такой характеристикой, как удлинение, однако удлинение не всегда показатель быстродействия, поэтому необходимо также учитывать предел текучести.
