A study was made on the effect of KCl on P uptake by 20‐day‐old corn seedlings grown in water culture and 4‐day‐old excised corn roots grown on 0.2 mM CaSO4 solution. All P solutions were adjusted to pH 4. Those used for excised roots contained 0.2 mM CaSO4 and those used for 20‐day‐old corn seedlings contained 1.2 mM KNO3, 0.8 mM Ca(NO3)2, and 0.4 mM MgSO4. One‐hour absorption periods using concentrations up to 0.l M KCl showed no effect on 32P uptake from 2 to 260 µM KH2PO4 solutions with either type of plant material.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
