La fusariosis de la espiga se ha convertido en una de las enfermedades más importantes en la producción de trigo (Triticum aestivum L.) y otros cereales de invierno a nivel mundial. La combinación de las características epidemiológicas del patógeno, la escasa resistencia genética en los genotipos actuales y la fuerte influencia de las condiciones ambientales, hacen que la estrategia más pertinente para disminuir los daños causados por esta enfermedad sea la integración de distintas medidas de manejo que por sí solas no han mostrado ser efectivas. En la presente revisión son abordados aspectos relacionados a la etiología y epidemiología de la fusariosis de la espiga, así como también diferentes estrategias de manejo tendientes a reducir las pérdidas ocasionadas por dicha enfermedad. Se hace especial énfasis en el control químico y el desarrollo de modelos empíricos para la predicción de ocurrencia de la enfermedad tendientes a optimizar el momento de aplicación del fungicida.
