Bioakumulasi berarti peningkatan konsentrasi unsur kimia tersebut dalam tubuh makhluk hidup sesuai piramida makanan. Logam berat dapat terakumulasi melalui rantai makanan yakni semakin tinggi tingkatan rantai makanan yang ditempati oleh suatu organisme, akumulasi logam berat di dalam tubuhnya juga semakin bertambah. Konsentrasi logam berat yang tinggi dapat terakumulasi pada beberapa jenis biota perairan seperti ikan dan kerang. Proses ini diawali dengan penumpukan logam berat dalam tubuh biota. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bioakumulasi logam berat kadmium (Cd) dan kromium (Cr) yang terkandung pada ikan dan air di Sungai Tallo Makassar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dan obervasional dengan rancangan analisis konsentrasi dimana faktor-faktor konsentrasi diukur dengan parameter air secara fisik pada waktu yang sama untuk menganalisis kandungan logam berat pada kadmium (Cd) dan kromium (Cr) pada ikan dan air di Sungai Tallo. Dari hasil penelitian ini diperoleh kandungan kadmium (Cd) dan kromium (Cr) yang terdapat dalam ikan dan air di perairan Sungai Tallo Makassar tidak memenuhi syarat sesuai dengan Peraturan Pemerintah Republik Indonesia dan Badan Standar Nasional Indonesia. Besarnya hasil logam berat kadmium (Cd) dan kromium (Cr) di Sungai Tallo Makassar disebabkan karena adanya aktivitas industri (buangan limbah) ke sungai tersebut. Selain aktivitas industri, banyaknya disekitaran Sungai Tallo terdapat pemukiman penduduk yang padat dan masyarakat membuang air limbah domestik ke sungai sehingga besarnya kandungan logam berat kadmium (Cd) dan kromium (Cr) mempengaruhi biota sungai. Bioakumulasi logam berat kadmium (Cd) dan kromium (Cr) pada air dan ikan di Sungai Tallo Makassar tidak memenuhi syarat. Hendaknya masyarakat yang bermukim di sekitar Sungai Tallo sadar akan pentingnya menjaga lingkungan sekitar.

Sedangkan kandungan kromium (Cr) yang terdapat dalam ikan di titik 1 dan titik 2 yaitu sebesar 0,01 mg/kg dan pada titik 3 yaitu sebesar 16,9091 mg/kg. Adapun hasil penelitian diperoleh kandungan kadmium (Cd) pada air ditik 1, 2 dan 3 yaitu sebesar <0,003 mg/L. Sedangkan kandungan kromium (Cr) yang terdapat dalam air pada titik 1, 2 dan 3 yaitu sebesar <0,012 mg/L. Besarnya hasil logam berat kadmium (Cd) dan kromium (Cr) pada ikan di Sungai Tallo Makassar disebabkan karena adanya aktivitas industri (buangan limbah) ke sungai tersebut. Selain aktivitas industri, banyaknya disekitaran Sungai Tallo terdapat pemukiman penduduk yang padat dan masyarakat membuang air limbah domestik ke sungai sehingga besarnya kandungan logam berat kadmium (Cd) dan kromium (Cr) mempengaruhi biota sungai. Hendaknya masyarakat yang bermukim di sekitar Sungai Tallo sadar akan pentingnya menjaga lingkungan sekitar.
