The main objective of the study is to identify the leadership style that is being practiced by librarians in university libraries. In this quantitative study, questionnaire was used to collect data from 201 librarians of four universities in Malaysia. The results indicate that librarians are practising more on transformational leadership style ((M = 4.01) followed by laissez-faire leadership style (M = 3.73). Transactional leadership style (M = 3.67) is the least practised as compared to the transformational and laissez-faire leadership style. In addition, transactional leadership style showed significant difference among age groups. The result further indicated that there were significant differences on transformational leadership and transactional leadership between levels of positions and working experience of respondents. The outcome of this study is expected to assist practitioners to recognise their styles of leadership and find other factors that can help them to engage with subordinates in the organisation.
Information agency basic responsibility focuses on the creation, acquisition, organisation, storage, dissemination and maintenance of information in whatever format, printed or digital. They required all related knowledge and skills to perform their roles in this emerging world of technology. Personal competencies are essential skills requirement seek by employer in selecting their employees. Personal competencies of students are considered greatly important for the effectiveness of learning process. It is also important skills for students to acquire for their future career. This concept paper aims to investigate the personal competencies of future information professionals. The nine (9) domains of personal competencies (critical thinking, interaction skills, relationships skills, leadership skills, presentation skills, media literacy skills, and written skills) in this paper was determined based on the selected literature on communication and personal competencies. This paper would bring benefit to all future information professional as it can view future graduate preparedness to enter the industry.
The heavy rains in Malaysia in 2021 caused big flooding and landslides in major cities have stunned the unprepared residents over the torrential downpours. The most affected city dwellers are among those low-income categories residents who live in low-cost housing and highly populated areas. Thus, this research is proposed to understand the state of disaster preparedness among city dwellers in Malaysia. The research will adopt a mixed methods approach. The qualitative approach will take place first in the data collection process. Subsequently, a quantitative approach will be conducted. The respondents will be among the city dwellers aged 20 and over. The expected findings will be the city dwellers' disaster preparedness effectiveness and efficiency in rebuilding their livelihood. They seem in line with the two decades government policy on Disaster Reduction Risk which started in the 1970s. The expected implication will be a new model of disaster emergency preparedness for city dwellers, particularly the low-income city dwellers including the special groups. Hence, the research output is expected to assist the emergency management of stakeholders in educating, monitoring, and acting upon the physical and mental preparedness at all levels.
The objective of this study is to identify the level of students' entrepreneurial intention in doing information-related business and to compare the entrepreneurial intention between gender, role of family background, discipline of study and family income. Using a quantitative approach of study, questionnaires were distributed randomly to 175 postgraduate students of Faculty of Information Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia. The finding revealed that students were quite positive towards their intention in doing information-related business. The mean score was highest for I will make every effort to start and run my own information-related business (mean=3.32) followed by If I had the opportunity and resources, I'd like to start an informationrelated business (3.29). However there was no evidence of difference regarding entrepreneurial intention between gender, role of family background, discipline of study and family income. The finding of this study will be useful to the management of Faculty of Information Management, other academic institutions and educators to design the entrepreneurship course for university students.
