Food safety has become a primary public concern worldwide, due to pesticide residues in food resulting from direct application of pesticides to crops. Pesticides are mainly applied in the farming industry to control vectors that reduce the quantity and quality of farm produce. The pesticides are sprayed directly on the crops/vegetables and the soil surface. Some pesticide residues are persistent and can remain on the surface of the crops and/or absorbed from soil into the plant system. Consumption of farm produce, therefore, becomes the primary source of exposure of the general population to pesticides. The pesticide metabolites in the human body have been linked to a wide variety of health effects, ranging from acute to chronic toxicity; such as cancer, endocrine disruption, and neurological effects (Taiwo, 2019).
