Tanaman cengkeh (Syzygium aromaticum) merupakan tanaman yang terkenal dengan minyak cengkeh yang tinggi dan berpotensi sebagai antibakteri. Kandungan minyak cengkeh tertinggi terdapat pada bagian bunganya (10-20%), selanjutnya gagang cengkeh (5-10%), dan daun cengkeh (1-4%). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan kemampuan antibakteri ekstrak bunga cengkeh yang sudah dikenal memiliki aktivitas antibakteri dengan ekstrak gagang cengkeh yang masih kurang diketahui aktivitas antibakterinya terhadap bakteri patogen Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu cakram kertas (Kirby Bauer), dengan menguji kemampuan antibakteri ekstrak gagang cengkeh dengan konsentrasi 50% dan ekstrak bunga cengkeh dengan konsentrasi 50%. Data dianalisis menggunakan ANOVA dengan taraf signifikansi (p < 0,05). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa rerata zona hambat ekstrak gagang cengkeh dan bunga cengkeh konsentrasi 50% yang terbentuk adalah 13.63 mm dan 18.69 mm. Ekstrak gagang cengkeh tergolong cukup sensitif, sedangkan bunga cengkeh sensitif terhadap pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah ekstrak bunga cengkeh memiliki kemampuan antibakteri yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan ekstrak gagang cengkeh secara signifikan (p < 0.05). Meskipun demikian, baik ekstrak bunga maupun gagang cengkeh keduanya memiliki potensi sebagai antibakteri yang cukup efektif terhadap bakteri patogen Staphylococcus aureus.
