Conocer las especies presentes en un área natural protegida es indispensable para valorar correctamente la diversidad y planificar su manejo. El Área Natural Protegida “La Esmeralda” es un proyecto privado situado en el centro-este de la provincia de Entre Ríos (Argentina), manejado como Reserva de Usos Múltiples. Conserva relictos de bosques nativos con un alto nivel de conservación en una región con alto nivel de fragmentación. El objetivo del trabajo fue confeccionar un inventario de los mamíferos del ANP “La Esmeralda” a lo largo de cuatro años de relevamientos periódicos. Se registraron 34 especies de mamíferos, todas representativas de los ambientes que están protegidos en la reserva. Se obtuvo una riqueza mayor al 50% de la mencionada para la provincia de Entre Ríos, entre ellas Mazama gouazopira, declarada como Monumento Natural. Es un inventario preliminar que será actualizado periódicamente con registros nuevos provenientes de cámaras trampas como también de muestreos específicos. El presente y futuro busca una producción sostenible que cuide el medio ambiente conservando los recursos faunísiticos como los mamíferos. El conocimiento de este registro permite mejorar las acciones de educación que integre a las comunidades vecinas.
En esta nota se documenta el primer registro de oso melero para la provincia de Entre Ríos. Se trata de un ejemplar atropellado en el Km 34 de la RN N°136, en el Área Natural Protegida Estancia El Potrero de San Lorenzo, departamento Gualeguaychú. Este registro amplía potencialmente la distribución de esta especie 320 km hacia el sur en el territorio argentino.
