PSEUDONYMITAT UND ANONYMITAT BEI SALVIAN VON NORBERT BROX In der altkirchlichen Literaturgeschichte hat man es fortgesetzt mit ungeklarten Verfasserschaftsangaben zu tun. Die Probleme, die zu 16sen sind, stellen sich fur pseudepigraphische, anonyme and pseudonyme Literatur verschieden. Bei der Pseudonymitat, in der sich also ein Schriftsteller einen frei erfundenen Decknamen zulegt,' um sich nicht selbst zu nennen (und nichtwie in der Pseudepigraphievom Namen einer anerkannten Autoritat aus Gegenwart oder Geschichte profitieren will), ist die interessanteste Frage immer die, warum der Autor seinen tatsachlichen Namen nicht hat nennen wollen. Eines der reizvollsten Beispiele dafiir bleibt Salvian von Marseille, Presbyter des 5. Jh.'s.2 Er hat seine unerbittliche, provokante Kirchen-und Gesellschaftskritik in den >>Vier Biichern an die Kirche<< pseudonym publiziert.3 Als sein Pseudonym wahlte er ?Timotheus<, den Namen des prominenten Mitarbeiters des Paulus (eccl. I,1). Vom Bischof Salonius von Genf zur Vermeidung irrefuhrender Vorstellungen im Kirchenvolk tiber die Herkunft dieser Bticher zur Rede gestellt, gibt Salvian zwar nicht zu, der Verfasser zu sein, sondern umgeht diese direkte Frage und breitet stattdessen die Griinde aus, die ein zeitgenossischer Kirchenschriftsteller dafur haben konnte, iiber dieses Thema unter diesem Pseudonym zu schreiben. Das ist ein einzigartiger Fall, daB man in solcher Ausfiihrlichkeit wie im 9. Brief an Salonius einen altchristlichen Autor sich dafiir rechtfertigen horen kann, daB er in einer literarischen Manipulation (als welche auch die Pseudonymitat gelten mu3)4 seinen Namen als Autor kaschierte. Warum also wollte Salvian vor der Offentlichkeit verdecken, daB er das Buch geschrieben hatte? Seine Rechtfertigungen (cur in titulo libellorum non sit nomen auctoris: ep. IX, 13) bestehen, da Salvian psei donym (nicht pseudepigraphisch) publiziert hatte, nicht etwa in Echtheitsbeteuerungen, sondern in der Aufzahlung hochst ehrenwerter Motive eines Autors fur das Verschweigen des eigenen Namens und die von seiner Person ablenkende Angabe eines >falschen Namens<.
