In Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, engineering students are expected to deliver technical oral presentations on numerous occasions prior to graduation. These presentations include survey report presentations, laboratory report presentations, project/assignment presentations as well as final year project presentations. Technical presentation refers to a prepared formal presentation on scientific, engineering, technological, business types, regulatory, legal, managerial or social scientific information topics to the non-expert audience (DiSanza and Legge, 2003). Students often struggled when they have to deliver technical oral presentations and most of the time they had difficulty to deliver effective presentations especially for their final year project. This study was conducted to address these issues with the intention of proposing measures to help students deliver effective technical oral presentation. This paper reports on the preliminary findings on; 1) the specific areas of difficulties faced by the students in delivering effective technical oral presentation and, 2) the different ways on improving ineffective technical oral presentation. A set of questionnaire was distributed to 235 students from six different engineering faculties in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Findings indicated that the students encountered problems when delivering technical oral presentations especially in terms of content, delivery and language. They also provided suggestions on how to improve their technical oral presentation skills. It is hoped that the findings can shed some lights where the teaching of technical oral presentation skills to the engineering students is concerned.
Social media has turned into an internet marvel in recent years. This fast technological evolution and intensity of competition oblige companies to constantly looking for different ways to set apart themselves and offer added values to their customers especially in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). The increasing popularity of social media has encouraged SMEs to start to consider this means as a new approach to communicate with clients and increase their brand reputation. In spite of the potential benefit and the developing numbers of adopters, previous studies show that only a few SMEs are concerned about social media adoption. Therefore, this forms a necessity to understand more on the factor influence in the decision making of the adoption in SMEs. Lack of literature review also creates another concern that require a thorough research. So the study will discuss the relationship between factors of influencing the adoption of social media in SMEs service sector. The data collected for this study was done by using online survey strategy. This study used 384 as a sample size with a population of total 809 126 Malaysia's SMEs in the service sector. From the result obtained, the three factors identified: ease of use, usefulness and trust have a significant relationship with adoption while usefulness is most contributed factor in the adoption of social media. This finding will be a valuable data in assisting new entrepreneurs in adopting appropriate social media for their business.
Universities require basic changes in knowledge and communication-based society in order to achieve higher order learning experience and to satisfy expectations of new generation of students. This study aims to understand the likelihood of the cloud-based collaborative learning technology adoption within educational environments. Reviewing cloud computing research, technology characteristic construct was divided into collaboration, mobility, and personalization. Based on the Task-Technology Fit (TTF) model, this study tested a theoretical model encompassing seven variables: collaboration, mobility, personalization, task non-routineness, task interdependence, task-technology fit, user adoption. Purposive sampling was used and data were collected from 86 undergraduate and postgraduate students who had experiences in using cloud-based applications for collaborative activities. The results indicated that task non-routineness, collaboration, mobility, and personalization have positive significant effects on TTF. However, distinct from past studies, task interdependence positively influences TTF. In addition, results indicated that the significant effect of TTF on users' intention to adopt cloud-based collaborative learning technologies was considerable.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
